Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Turkey, circa 1880-1890, this 3x5 antique Kirsehir rug is an exciting, rare new curation from the Rug & Kilim collection.
On the Design
Admirers of the craft will note an interesting stylistic variation from early 19th century design making it a very special piece of its kind, with a look of European influence in this take on a mihrab arch often seen in prayer rugs and in the geometric patterns clearly meant to be floral medallions in the field and border alike.
Keen eyes for detail may admire the richest burgundy red tones underscores, where a play of gold and light blue hues make up the patterns of the field and border meander. The attention to detail in scale, texture and movement of color is matched only by its equally rare condition. This is an exemplary traditional piece, with more of a vibrance than many found in the modern day.
Condition:
This antique Kirsehir rug further enjoys good condition for its age and lineage—a rare and collectible piece of history for both designer and connoisseur alike.
