The details are vivid and realistic.
The artist was proficient in oils, watercolors, and sculpture, and he exhibited widely in the Salons of Paris.
Guy was named Professor of Fine Arts at L'ecolo des Beaux-Arts, in Lyon in 1871, and he went on to become director of the Municipal School of Drawing in Lyon in 1887.
His paintings are in many European museums.
He is listed in Benezit, and in Thieme and Becker.
This painting is signed, dated 1856, and has received Sotheby's highest rating for authenticity.
