The colors, browns and grays, are … Read more This composition shows a couple of peasants engaged in lighthearted conversation outside a tavern.
The colors, browns and grays, are typical of those in Teniers (the younger) scenes.
There is an indistinct signature and date in the picture which leads to the conversative assessment that it originated from the school of Teniers.
However, Henry Vorgang, a Southern California dealer and expert in old master works, has seen the picture and has expressed his belief that the painting is by the hand of Teniers the younger.
This flemish painter is, of course, one of the great masters of his period and his works are to be found in all great collections of late 1600's Dutch and Flemish art.
