The detail … Read more This set of eight mahogany dining chairs was produced by Potthast Brothers in Baltimore, Maryland, in the 1930's. The detail of the carved backs is exquisite, as you can see in the close-up pictures. For chairs that are nearly 100 years old, they are not in perfect condition. One of the side chairs has a small section of damage on the top (refer to picture 13). Another side chair had a small piece of wood knocked off of the back of the chair, but I reattached it (refer to picture 14). The feet of some of these chairs are scuffed (refer to picture 15). All of the chairs are upholstered in what appears to be a silk fabric, which has a beautiful sheen, especially at night when viewed in subdued lighting. There are stains on some of the seats (refer to picture 17), so it would be desirable to have all of them reupholstered. Each chair has two paper labels affixed to the underside of the cross section, showing the name of the manufacturer, Potthast Brothers and the location, Baltimore, Maryland. There is also the name Potthast stamped into the wood on the underside of each chair. All of these chairs are very sturdy and heavy, a testament to the quality of furniture produced by Potthast Brothers.

I photographed these eight chairs outside on a sunny summer day, so the color will be different when viewed inside a room under artificial light. The warmth and grain of the mahogany wood are evident when viewed in natural light. I photographed each side chair separately, so if you want to see these six pictures, just let me know.
