This petite round box rests on three elegant hoof feet and features a tortoiseshell lid inlaid with an intricate neoclassical silver design of urns, ribbons, and festoons. The interior is lined with pale blue ruched satin, suggesting it was originally intended for rings, small jewelry, or vanity table accessories. The box is fully hallmarked with a lion passant for sterling silver, a leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, the date letter “n” for 1888, the Queen Victoria duty mark, and maker’s initials “C&S.” for Cornelius & Sheffield.
