Juan Carlos Gomez (Argentinian/American, 1961 -2018) Oil on Board Figures in Black and White
John de la Vega, born Juan Carlos Gomez de la Vega in Buenos Aires, Argentina, came to America in 1961. At age fifteen he became a successful portrait painter. In 1971, John de la Vega was honored with a ten-year retrospective of his paintings, sculptures, and photographs at the Miami Museum of Modern Art in Miami, Florida, a then international showcase, no longer in existence. His work is characterized as abstract, mysterious and energetic. Gomez called himself a "symbolic-surrealist." Gomez was also a teacher, poet, filmmaker and lecturer.
