About the Artist:

Irene Stry (1904–1963) was a master painter active in New York and Cape Cod, working primarily from the 1930s through the 1950s. Originally from Hungary, she exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists in New York (1937–38) and became known for her luminous Impressionist seascapes and floral still lifes. Her works reflect the influence of Provincetown and Truro's light and natural beauty. Irene’s florals are especially admired for their vivid palette, confident brushwork, and elegant compositions. She was married to artist Eric Stry, and together they contributed to the American modernist art scene.
