this sculpture was transformed into a lamp, removing the tambourine the zingara held in her left hand.

the signature "j clésinger rome 1858" can be found on the tree trunk against which the dancer is leaning, the stamp "f barbedienne fondeur" on the base, and the stamp "réduction mécanique collas brevetée" also on the trunk.

clésinger was a french sculptor (1814-1883). He studied sculpture in rome from the age of 18, returning to paris in 1838.
after extensive travel, he exhibited for the first time at the paris salon in 1843, a salon where he presented works throughout his career and received several awards. Most of his works are exhibited in museums. He surrounded himself with the best craftsmen of his time, including barbedienne and collas.

good overall condition, traces of wear to the patina, old restorations to the arm (at the key, probably due to the electrical installation) - the wiring needs to be redone.
