Ellen malmer (1942–2022) was a prominent danish ceramist and designer, best known for her work at royal copenhagen between 1965 and 1988.
malmer contributed significantly to the iconic mid-century faience series baca and tenera, which were launched under the direction of nils thorsson. Her design style was characterized by playful shapes, organic patterns and earthy colors—often with abstract, floral elements.
combining silver and enamel, often in organic, flowing forms with a clear modernist aesthetic. The design form is reminiscent of her ceramic universe with abstract, organic lines.
anton michelsen was one of denmark's most renowned and important silversmiths and jewelers. His name is closely associated with danish design history, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, and his company has collaborated with a long line of denmark's greatest artisans and designers – including ellen malmer.
in 1848, michelsen was appointed royal court supplier, making the company one of the main suppliers of silver to the danish royal family.
the company specialized in silver cutlery, jewelry, medals, and enamel work.
anton michelsen was one of the first to introduce enamel in modern jewelry design in denmark, and he helped develop a distinctive danish style that has shaped the design tradition right up to the present day.
in 1985, a. Michelsen was acquired by georg jensen.
