This expressive portrait depicts a robed desert figure rendered with Ragland’s characteristic heavy impasto brushwork and vibrant palette of warm ochres, oranges, and cool blues.

The painting demonstrates Ragland’s energetic handling of paint, with richly textured surfaces that create depth and movement. The reverse is inscribed by the artist and dated 2006.

Ragland was an accomplished painter, sculptor, educator, and author whose work is included in the collection of the Kirkland Museum in Denver.
