A rare, metamorphic oak table from 18th century France, appearing to be a substantial console table that easily flips open--nearly doubling in depth--to use as an occasional serving table, center table, or for dining. Handmade, solid oak construction bears the dark, textural grain patterns and patina developed over nearly two centuries of time & use. Forged iron pendant pulls dangling from the table's apron guide the retractable wood rails to support the side planks (like leaves) unfolding from the table top, pivoting on hand-forged iron hinges that are thoughtfully shaped as a decorative feature beyond their function. A base of four baluster-turned legs connected by flat stretchers in an H-formation anchors the table, giving it a sense of permanence and presence in any space.
