The Story of a Late 20th Century Black Leather Gunlocke Office Chair.
On November 11, 1984, at the location of One Gunlocke Drive in Wayland, NY 14573, more commonly known as The Gunlock Company. The listed office chair was assigned order number 156383 with pattern number 464 UAW, accompanied by upholstery options U4005.
Upon receiving the information, the highly anticipated office chair was born. The Gunlocke craftsmen dressed the solid hardwood frame in black leather, complemented with tack head nails and brass trim.
The Gunlocke craftsmen were not finished; they made the chair adjustable, spring-loaded, featuring a wheeled swivel base with caster wheels. They ensured the chair was built structurally sound, sturdy, and rather heavy.
Shortly after completion, The Chair moved to Houston, Texas, and began a career in Law, spending days and nights working at 515 Rusk Avenue, Houston, TX 77002, more commonly known as The Southern District of Texas courthouse.
In the late 80s, early 90s it is believed The Chair left the field of law and went into seclusion, location unknown.
In July 2025, The Chair suddenly reappeared, looking for a new life; the brass now had a very nice patina. The leather showed slight wear with a few scratches on the back. The Chair had aged well.
The chair opened up and talked for hours about the days at the courthouse. The Chair professed to miss having an owner and was upset about all the days in seclusion. I then took out a soft rag and applied some leather conditioner and this made The Chair feel better. The Chair then asked if I could really find a home? I explained how I found a site that may help us, called Charish.com. The Chair then made a call to his friends and gave them the good news.
