Object :
Fabulous large plaque, bas-relief sculpture in glazed majolica entirely worked, modeled and decorated by hand, depicting a young commoner carrying water in Abruzzo folkloric clothes, signed lower right "Gianna" and dated "68", for 1968. The ceramic biscuit is rather thick and the patina covering the sculpture is good, mounted on a solid cherry wood board. Plaque made in full Deco style, by the artist Giovanna Boschi, known as Gianna as per signature.
Useful information for the evaluation of the object:
from an online search we find that various auction results of ceramics made by Giovanna Boschi (known as Gianna) have reached maximum peaks of €500-700, to give an idea of the value of the majolica made by this artist. Then we noticed that many auction houses directly call her "Gianna Boschi", as per the signature on our plaque.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Born in Faenza in 1913, the painter and ceramist Giovanna Boschi, known as Gianna, after being a student of Roberto Sella, completed her training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, a student of Ercole Drei and Giovanni Romagnoli. In the 1950s she began her exhibition career, achieving ever greater success. In 1958 she obtained the chair of Drawing at the Istituto d'Arte G. Ballardini in Faenza and from the early Sixties she began to turn her attention to ceramics, transferring her long artistic experience to the new material, with very significant results. In 1980 the Municipality of Faenza dedicated her a first anthological exhibition which was repeated in 1988 with an installation curated by Franco Solmi, at Palazzo del Podestà. She died in a car accident in 1986. In the last photo we have added additional biographical notes on the artist for those who want to learn more. This piece has an attribution mark,
