These tables are prized among collectors with traditional interiors as they are incredibly popular and rare to come by. This particular example was custom made by an expert furniture maker working in the Federal style several generations ago. We believe it was crafted for a home in Virginia which housed an elegant collection of traditional American antiques on a property dating back to the 18th century. These smaller formed wine tables are most desirable due to their size and scale, and with respect to how they appear within an existing furnished interior. Quite often larger candlestands and tea tables are used in spaces where a smaller wine table would be much preferred. Antique counterparts of this smaller serving table are referred to as "kettle stands". Due to the fact that most kettle stands are in private collections and have become considerably valuable many collectors chose to have wine tables made custom for them.

This table is constructed from a premium selection of mahogany lumber with a brilliantly figured circular shaped top made to emphasize the full beauty of the exotic wood. Intentionally, the craftsman who built this table elected to leave part of the backside of the table top rough hewn as a way of distinguishing the table from something that may have been made in a factory without the attention of a traditionally trained furniture maker. The table has a tiling top which allows for full display of the beautiful wood grain figuring when the top is not folded downward to act as a serving table for a wine bottle. An exceptionally well turned baluster pedestal and three expertly crafted snake legs provide this table with an elegance most other variations made in this style fall short of. Overall the table is in excellent condition with a wonderful mahogany color that fully illuminates the depth and full beauty imbued within the grain of the wood. The table is 22” wide at the base and the top has an 18” diameter. When the top is flipped up like in our gallery photo the table is 38” tall. When the top is secured down the table is 27 1/4” tall.
