This is a mixed media piece including textual (scratched in) elements. The artist’s unique technique and result is glorious, evokes curiosity and is awe-inspiring. The red says, Get up and Go, and is inspired by the inscription, “New Beginnings.” The artwork is topped with a lacquer much like an epoxy. The handmade wooden stretch frame is substantial and deep, as seen from the back view. It does need a frame (optional).
About the Artist:
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1973 from Polish descent, James Verbicky lived the majority of his early life between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia. As an adult, Verbicky moved to the U.S., and after struggling with legitimacy for many years, was awarded the rarely bestowed “Extraordinary Ability” green card from the U.S. government due to his extensive involvement with a myriad of museums, galleries, charity organizations, and publications across America. Verbicky has developed a strong presence in the contemporary art market in the U.S. and abroad. He is widely known for his atmospheric abstract expressionist work; his use of light and color described by critics as “suggesting impossible, intangible places.” (Peter Frank, Critic, 2009). In 2008, his work was selected for a 110 year-old juried exhibition at the Louvre, in Paris, France, with the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In 2009, Verbicky debuted a new series of mixed media works that bring an entirely new, sculptural element to his oeuvre, utilizing foreign vintage paper and abstract form. Combined with his broad catalogue of expressionistic paintings, Verbicky works are counted in hundreds of private, public, celebrity and museum collections in countries all over the world.
James Verbicky - Canada
Art Brokerage: James Verbicky Canadian Artist: b. 1973. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1973 from Polish descent, James Verbicky spent the majority of his early life between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia. He began painting around the age of four, when he was enrolled in an adult oil painting class after instructors noticed his premature ability to draw three dimensional objects. Since that time, Verbicky has taught himself through experimentation with unusual substances, tools, and vivid color, creating and honing his own unique techniques and methods. Six years ago, Verbicky made the commitment to move to the United States to fulfill a dream of establishing himself in the competitive contemporary art market in southern California. After struggling with legitimacy for many years, Verbicky attained the rarely bestowed Extraordinary Ability green card from the United States government due to his involvement with a myriad of galleries, prominent art collectors, national publications, museums, and charity organizations across America. In 2008, Verbicky was chosen to be among only twelve American-based artists invited to exhibit work at the world-famous Louvre in Paris, France. He exhibits work across the country, and is counted in hundreds of private, public, and celebrity collections around the world.
Verbicky’s original works are counted in thousands of important private, public, celebrity, and museum collections in countries worldwide. He frequently collaborates with philanthropic organizations, using his artwork to raise thousands for nonprofits like the Waterkeeper Alliance and the Art of Elysium. His works have been the focus of international exhibitions, from Berlin to New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Diego, and auctioned by Sotheby’s & Christie’s.
Condition Notes:
Scratches (top left) and small bubbles (middle) present on the polyurethane adhesive. The painting has many forms of media and artistic techniques, including the use of crinkled paper, visible top right. These are intentional, along with the etched or scratched forms seen primarily in the center. The other scratches notes above the top coat of the painting are listed as imperfections (unintended). I have inquired with the artist to confirm the name of the piece as indicated below signature. This listing will be updated as more information becomes available.

It would just need a handing cord attached (easily) to be hung unframed. Although this can be done without a cord due to the thickness of the natural frame of wooden stretch bars. There are surface scratches and some air bubbles on the lacquer coating. With the artist’s style, all of the intentional scratched in lettering and graffiti type work under the coating is intentional. However, I feel the surface scratches and bubbles are otherwise imperfections or damage. I could be wrong, but that’s my opinion. It is unnoticeable from afar. One of the folded canvas corners on the back of the canvas (really, the back part that doesn’t matter) on may be ever so lose. Please see pictures, please ask questions. And I will be inquiring with the artists on the official name of the piece, as it is somewhat illegible to me. less
