"The Chiavari is a small, lightweight ladder-back chair often seen as an example of ‘anonymous’ vernacular design. Produced in various versions by countless manufacturers today, the chair was originally designed in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, a furniture maker in a small Italian town on the Ligurian coast called Chiavari."
