This rare, iconic and visually arresting "Emperor" chair by Danny Ho Fong for Tropi-Cal (now Fong Brothers) is a modernist take on the classic peacock cobra, or Emmanuelle chair. Rather than an ornately woven decorated back, it is simply a repeating pattern of pencil rattan upholstered on the face with an original abstract fan fabric. Expertly crafted and compelling from every angle.
About the Maker:
Danny Ho and Muey Fong founded Fong Brothers Company based on traditional Chinese design. The company originally established in 1954 as Tropi-Cal in California offered a fresh nod to the relaxed, effortless elegance of California style. Fong was an American who moved to the California coast in 1936. Muey’s son Miller was born in 1942 in Los Angeles and graduated from college as an architect. Miller would later join the family business and was instrumental in some of the firm’s most iconic pieces many of which are in museum collections around the country.
