Alfred Metzener was born in 1833 in Niendorf. He studied at the academies in Berlin and Munich and settled in Düsseldorf in 1867. Mountain landscapes from Upper Bavaria, Austria, and Switzerland were the main subject of his work. from the 1870s onward, he exhibited frequently.
