Born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in New York City, Mooney developed an early passion for art while visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA during her teenage years.

She studied with numerous accomplished instructors throughout her career and continually refined her approach, blending learned technique with personal expression.
