Antique Anatolian Kilim, circa 1960
Dark blue, red, cream, and black – a silent force field.
This handwoven kilim from Anatolia, created around 1960, unfolds an impressive presence through its reduced color palette: deep dark blue, vibrant black, bright red, and warm creamy white. The clarity of the colors lends it an almost masculine austerity – powerful, grounded, concentrated.
At the same time, it is permeated by the symbolic language of Elibelinde – an ancient symbol of the feminine, the preserving, the creative principle. This symbolism lends the rug a quiet depth, a kind of archaic security that gently resonates amidst all order.
This creates a tense balance: Between the geometric forms, there is a sense of connection – as if the masculine and feminine were encountering each other in a textile dialogue.
A rug that grounds rooms with its clear structure - and fills it with meaning through its symbolism.
