additional information:
this sideboard, designed and executed by the renowned viennese furniture factory richard ludwig in 1906, impressively embodies the stylistic principles of viennese art nouveau. It was presented in the same year at the exhibition of the vienna arts and crafts association and displays a clear formal rigor contrasted with ornate decorative elements.
particularly noteworthy is the drop-shaped or teardrop-shaped glass decoration, which bears clear parallels to kolo moser's design for the lace chest in the dressing room of the eisler apartment at terramare. This ornamentally reduced yet expressive design exemplifies the synthesis of functionality and aesthetics that characterized viennese art nouveau.
the richard ludwig furniture factory was known not only for its original designs, but also for the high-quality execution of important furniture pieces by prominent viennese architects. For example, the company created a stately cabinet based on a design by joseph maria olbrich for the 1900 paris world's fair. Later, important viennese furniture designers, such as otto prutscher – a student of hoffmann and later chief designer of thonet – also worked closely with the manufactory. In 1906, prutscher designed art furniture for dr. Weiss's household, which ludwig masterfully executed.
richard ludwig also worked for otto wagner's student leopold bauer, producing a rosewood glass cabinet and a venetian pilot oak bookcase for bauer's contribution to the 27th exhibition of the association of austrian visual artists, vienna secession, november–december 1906. These works underscore the manufactory's central role in the art and furniture production of viennese modernism.
the design of the buffet combines both the design innovations and the precise craftsmanship that made viennese art nouveau internationally renowned. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
