Offered here for your consideration is a fine English Staffordshire or Leeds type pearlware blue border leaf form pickle dish in the “Butterfly and Flower” pattern.
The dish has fine saw tooth edges, a blue border, and molded “veining” to the top.
Richard Halliday identifies the form as possibly Swansea in his “BLUE-PRINTED PICKLE DISHES & MILSEYS” book.
The base bears a blue underglaze star mark and an old Matthew & Elizabeth Sharpe sticker.
It dates to the early 19th Century.
It is in overall good to fair, as-pictured used estate condition with a noticeable chip to the reverse, some minor fritting to to the saw tooth edges, some light highpoint glaze wear, a few fine & tight hairlines, some very fine and light surface scratches throughout, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
