This mixed media assemblage depicting a black and grey bird behind a cage of silver wires was created by artist, writer, and art academic Florence Alfano McEwin. McEwin's career spans over thirty years. Much of her work is mixed media, including collage and assemblage. Her pieces have been shown in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions here in the U.S. and abroad. She's won numerous awards for her work. McEwin lives and works in Laramie, Wyoming.
In this assemblage, McEwin revisits from previous work the symbolic theme of a caged bird. The mixed media used to assemble the piece include paper, an engraving of a bird, silver and gold metallic paint, and silver wire.
