Handwoven in wool and originating from Morocco circa 1950-1960, this 3x7 vintage runner rug is a rare and among the most exciting new additions to Rug & Kilim’s mid-century curations from the region.
On the Design:
Framed by a bold navy border with geometric accents, this mid-20th century piece exemplifies the classic five-medallion configuration characteristic of Middle Atlas workshops. Each diamond medallion exhibits distinct internal geometric complexity: stepped borders in contrasting colors, central cross motifs, and geometric elements that demonstrate the weaver's encyclopedic knowledge of traditional Berber tribal symbolic vocabulary. The coral red field achieves remarkable saturation, while the navy and golden yellow accents provide chromatic punctuation that activates the entire design. The sophisticated polychromatic approach demonstrates exceptional design, with each medallion exhibiting distinct internal geometric patterning while maintaining overall aesthetic unity.
Condition:
This vintage Moroccan runner rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
