This gorgeous canine is depicted on … Read more Offering a beautiful bronze study of a dog by French artist Louis-Albert Carvin (1875-1951). This gorgeous canine is depicted on all fours in an alert standing position with head slightly raised and standing proudly on a veined rectangular marble plinth. Signed by the artist on the base (see photos) and aged to perfection with a beautiful brown patina.

Born in Paris in 1875, Carvin's formal education in art began at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Émmanuel Frémiet and Georges Gardet. He became a renowned sculptor, working in bronze, terra cotta, and spelter. He was a member of the Society of French Artists, and his work frequently exhibited at the Salon des Artists throughout his lifetime. He was given France's Medal of Honour in 1894. Carvin was best known for his animalier sculptures -- first in a realistic style and later in an Art Deco style. He met several times with American aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright and sculpted a trophy titled "The Muse of Aviation," which was presented to them in 1909 along with their busts. Carvin died in Paris in 1951. See less
