Published by David McKay, this 567-page edition includes a hand-written facsimile( a rare, fold-out autobiography) variant readings of the poems (across different editions), and a section titled "Gathered Leaves"—an appendix of Whitman's thoughts and writings. There's also a striking autobiographical section, "A Backward Glance O'er Travel'D Roads," where Whitman praises Nature, American individuality, as portrayed in poetry and songs, worries about Democracy and government, and states "the crowning growth of the United States is to be spiritual and heroic." The large hardcover is bound in decorative green cloth with faded gilt lettering and top page edges. The spine features an Art Nouveau design. And opposite the Art Nouveau Title page. a black-and-white photographs of the great author, Whitman. This is said to be the last 'Leaves of Grass' published at the end of the 19th Century (dated 1900)..
