Item description:
wonderful sculpture in dark majolica lava ceramic, extremely hard and compact, very rare and unique, majolica glazed, vitrified, and entirely hand-modeled, depicting two small birds in a nest, one begging for food and another resting in the background. A unique piece, entirely hand-modeled. Finished with extremely bright metallic glazes and iridescent reflections of great visual effect. The sculpture is signed by the artist with the engraved signature "campi." created by antonietta campi, one of the most important italian ceramists working in laveno in the 20th century. The ceramic biscuit is extremely hard and very heavy; although not large in size, the sculpture weighs over 1.3 kg.
useful information for evaluating the item:
our web research has shown that several works by antonietta campi have been sold at auction for very high prices, to which auction fees of 25-30% must always be added. In particular, we found estimates for many vases by this artist ranging from a minimum of €300-400 for the smaller vases to over €2,500 for the larger ones with special craftsmanship. We then found two auction estimates, one from 2007 and one from 2009, for two sculptures with an artistic style and shape similar to ours, one listed by an auction house at €900-1,000 and the other at €850. Estimates that, when adjusted for inflation, would undoubtedly be much higher today. Finally, the four highest auction results we found on art price range from €3,000 to €3,500, plus auction fees of 25-30%.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
antonia campi (1921–2019) was an italian designer. She was hired by the società ceramica italiana in laveno, where she remained, holding prestigious positions over the years, until 1978. Guido andlovitz, the company's artistic director, quickly recognized her talent and offered her the opportunity to try her hand at ceramics. From the outset, antonia campi worked in various areas of the company, designing fantasy items, limited edition objects, and unique pieces of great artistic significance. She succeeded guido andlovitz as director of sci in 1962 and, from 1971, she directed the joint artistic center of sci and richard-ginori and later the design center of pozzi-ginori, which was created as part of the new corporate structure. In this role, she took on the task of overseeing the company's entire production: tea and coffee sets, vases, plates, ornaments, bathroom fixtures, and even taps. In the last photo, we have included additional biographical information about the artist for those who wish to learn more.
