Our false perceptions of Beautiful and Beastly is pronounced in this original oil and axle grease painting on linen. Two trophy figures, one sensual and the other graphically abrupt, marry as an interchangeable, symbolic form. This abstract, figurative painting blends earthy, dark tones and warm pastels with colorful, gestural strokes.
This painting is not currently stretched and will be shipped rolled.
BIOGRAPHY
As a native New Yorker, Joe Ginsberg studied painting and sculpture from an early age. Inspired by the tides of nature, his paintings are frequently created outdoors, incorporating and reflecting the effects of prolonged exposure to the elements. His works often weather naturally, revealing the unexpected, organic disposition of environmental chemistry, reflecting earth’s natural patina and patterns of time. What he refers to as “Electric Nature.” Robert Mahoney, a veteran art critic observed “If his images seem to want to jump off the canvas, it is because they have been worked on by nature herself … the weathering works like a decorative enzyme that encourages tidal surges of mirages”
Joe Ginsberg studied textile design at Fashion Institute of Technology, graphic design at The School of Visual Arts, filmmaking at NYU and printmaking at Pratt Institute where he went on to teach this medium as well.
