Charles x chest of drawers in walnut with inlays and gilded bronzes - early 19th century
this magnificent chest of drawers, dating back to the era of charles x (first decades of the nineteenth century), represents a superb example of the elegance and refined cabinetmaking of the period. Made of walnut, it has a solid structure and harmonious proportions that make it a furnishing accessory with great visual and functional impact.
technical and construction features:
material: solid walnut wood with splendid visible grain, enhanced by a shellac polish that gives it depth and shine. Structure: wavy body with a slightly flared front, typical of the style, which tapers towards the bottom. The sides are smooth and consistent with the finish of the front. Top: the upper part is made of a walnut top of adequate thickness, with a shaped edge, which follows the curvature of the body of the furniture. Drawers: the piece of furniture has three large front drawers, all of which are functional and slide, the first (upper) of which is slightly lower and finished with an elegant scroll inlay that runs horizontally. Inlays: a distinctive element of great value are the floral inlays in light boxwood that adorn the front of all three drawers. In particular, the lock escutcheons are framed by inlays in the shape of a stylised shield. These inlays are expertly executed, highlighting the attention to detail. Hardware: the hardware is entirely original and of high quality. The gilded bronze "ring" handles, of a classic and refined design, are fixed on bell-shaped rosettes, also in gilded bronze. The lock escutcheons, also in bronze, integrate perfectly with the inlays. The gilding has an authentic patina, testifying to the age of the piece of furniture. Feet: the chest of drawers rests on inverted bracket feet at the front, sculpted and enriched with gold leaf gilded profiles that give the piece of furniture a touch of opulence. State of conservation: excellent general state of conservation, restored with shellac finish. Origin: piedmont period: charles x (first quarter of the 19th century)
