The painting in question presents similarities with the work, commissioned to the painter by Giuseppe Bernasconi, and exhibited in Brera in 1851, depicting a view of Lake Brivio. The canvas is influenced, in its manner and composition, by the teaching of the master Canella. The artist studied in Milan in the 1840s, capturing the different orientations of contemporary landscape painting, from vedutism to the historical landscape of Massimo d?Azeglio. He seems to be close to the latter with the painting The destruction of Milan, Nocturne with moonlight effect, presented at the Turin Exhibition of 1849 or with Return of Richard the Lionheart to England. He drew the motifs of his works from his travels in Europe and from excursions to the lakes of Lombardy and the valleys of Piedmont.
