Rare and important dining table designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo in the 1950s, authentic testimony to the very high level achieved by Italian design in the post-war period.
The supporting structure, in dark lacquered rosewood with sculptural and fluid forms, is a perfect example of Borsani's poetics, always balanced between architectural rigor and plastic tension.
The central legs, slender and sculpted with dynamism, define an organic and at the same time rational volume, in which the structural function also becomes a primary aesthetic element.
The top in fine Calacatta marble, with its natural veining and slightly shaped edges, adds an elegant and luminous material counterpoint, restoring balance and lightness to the whole.
The contrast between the refinement of the marble and the intensity of the polished wood generates a harmonious dialogue of materials and proportions that expresses the innovative spirit of Borsani production.
Osvaldo Borsani was a central figure in twentieth-century Italian design and architecture, capable of combining the legacy of the great Lombard artisan tradition with an international and profoundly modern vision of the project.
After training at the Polytechnic of Milan, he took over the management of the family business, transforming it from a classic cabinet-making shop to a laboratory for experimenting with modern design. with the founding of Tecno in 1953 and his ongoing activity with Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, he developed a personal, refined and innovative language, always oriented towards absolute quality and the integration of art, architecture and industry.
Fundamental to his career were his collaborations with artists such as Lucio Fontana and Arnaldo Pomodoro, which led him to conceive environments in which the furniture was no longer a simple functional object, but part of a total vision of space. with Fontana he created furnishings and panels in which the surface becomes material to be perforated, to be opened to light and gesture. with Pomodoro he carries out formal research on sign and matter, inserting sculptural elements into interior design projects, in a constant dialogue between function and art. This table, for its proportions, elegance and manufacturing quality, can be read as an integral part of that unrepeatable creative season, in which Italian design was able to establish itself on the international scene thanks to its ability to combine artistic culture and executive expertise.
A work intended for collectors, architects and lovers of historical design who wish to integrate an authentic, rare and meaningful piece into their spaces.
