Absolutely darling, 1920s/30s petite oil painting of a young woman reading inside her study. I love these interior scenes which so beautifully capture early 20th or late 19th century life. The detail and layers of textures, fabrics and prints is just so incredibly charming. I can’t tell whether my favorite aspect is the paintings hanging on the wall, the joyous floral couch, the stripes on her Edwardian dress or her fabulous red shoes. This is framed what appears to be a 1930s frame and I believe that this was an artist’s study done at around that time of a scene from an earlier date. Reminds me of an Eduoard Vuillard painting. It is signed, may read “R. Hansen” or a variation of that. Medium is oil on board, and has been titled by the artist, “quite afternoon.”
