This set of 2 easy chairs ‘model 340’ was designed by poul volther and produced by frem rojle in denmark in the 1960’s. These chairs are in a very good condition, the structure has been checked, the teak has been revarnished. The cushions have been re-upholstered zipperless in a soft, coral orange-red fabric and the singles underneath the seats were renewed, making these seats very comfortable yet supportive. The brass holders for the backrest are a nice little detail on this pair. Each chair has a very small dent in one of the armrests, but further the condition is very good, as shown in the pictures.
on the designer:
poul m. Volther (1923–2001) was a master of modern danish
design—and a name that still resonates in homes around the world today. With a background as a skilled cabinetmaker, he stepped into the spotlight in 1950 when he took over as head of design at fdb møbler, following in the footsteps of the legendary børge mogensen.volther had a clear vision: create high-quality, functional furniture that everyday people could afford.
his designs perfectly captured the spirit of the time—simple, beautiful, and made for modern living. As denmark entered a new era of prosperity, his pieces became a natural fit for the fresh, functional homes of the post-war years.one of his most iconic creations? the j46 chair, launched in 1956. With its elegant spindle-back design and fresh take on the classic kitchen chair, it became an instant bestseller—and remains a danish favorite to this day.volther’s philosophy was rooted in craftsmanship and comfort.
he didn’t design for showrooms—he designed for real life. His legacy includes not only the j46 but also the world-famous corona chair, a sculptural masterpiece that’s become a global design icon.today, poul m. Volther’s designs continue to inspire as an important part of danish design’s history i have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
