The Faubourg Saint-Germain was an agglomeration "outside the walls" of Paris, built beyond the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. It extends from the abbey to the Military School.
Today included in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Invalides and the Quai d'Orsay, it is, par excellence, "the district of the ministries". It is one of the most chic and prestigious districts of Paris.
The Boulevard Saint-Germain crosses the Faubourg Saint-Germain, which it gutted when it was built from 1866 by Baron Haussmann.
