Classic mixed media painting by outsider artist Purvis Young, (American 1943 - 2010). Purvis took reclaimed cardboard and applied paper and plastic strips along with house paint to create this wonderful and colorful painting.
What helps set this piece off, is that it is framed under glass with a 2” float (shadow box style), with a new black wood molding ready for hanging. Signed “Young” in the upper right. This painting was acquired directly from the artist at his studio in Wynwood/Overtown in 1991.
Purvis’ art is widely collected by important collectors worldwide. His paintings hang in more than 22 museums and is featured in too many to list publications and several documentaries. Purvis started painting on the streets of Miami with found materials and his story is both wonderful and amazing. Usually one in a thousand artists become famous, and famous is an understatement for this artist. Simply Google his name to learn more about this artist if you don’t know already.
