europe sous lémpires de charlemagne et charles-quint.
the first map shows the empire of charlemagne who ruled over a vast area that was most of western europe. He reigned between 768 and 814 ad. Included in his dominions were present-day france, germany, belgium, italy, the netherlands and other vast territories.
the second map is the empire of charles quint v. Who reigned from 1500 to 1558 ad. Amongst other titles, he was holy roman emperor which extended from germany, austria through to northern italy. He was also archduke of austria, king of spain, lord of the netherlands, duke of burgundy, head of the house of habsburg, burgundian low countries, sicily and sardinia.
he also oversaw the spanish colonization and short lived german colonization of the americas.
his vast collection of realms was the first to be able to use the label “the empire on which the sun never sets”.
it is difficult to believe that one person could rule as much as this.
