When the Great War broke out he was immediately mobilised into the French army. He was highly regarded, producing works that were inspiring and patriotic.
His works were incredibly realistic and accurate regarding conditions at the front. Most of the time he was working from memory, rough sketches and black and white photographs.

This is an original 100 year old coloured, engraved/printed page, it was sourced from a damaged 1916 French journal, although the actual picture was painted in 1915.

It is set on a white border which has some slight age foxing but the actual picture is in incredible condition for its age.
