In Picardy, Tommy vanquishes the Huns, sketch by renowned Spanish war artist Jose Simont.
The British Tommy wins another trench from the enemy.
Jose Simont was renowned for visiting the troops at the front and made many drawings that depict scenes from the life of the soldiers.
The detail in this particular printed drawing is quite incredible.
He was a highly regarded artist-illustrator producing works that were inspiring and patriotic.
His works were incredibly realistic and accurate regarding conditions at the front. Most of the time he was working from memory, rough sketches and black and white photographs.
This is an original 100 year old black and white printed double page, it was sourced from a badly damaged 1916 French journal.
It is set on a white border which has some slight age foxing that lends itself to the overall picture, the actual sketch is in excellent condition for its age.
