This is exceptional example of a Ifugao “gor-bun” rattan basket, dating from the late 19th/early 20th century. It is a masterful example of traditional Filipino craftsmanship, featuring a coiled construction, pedestal base, round body, and a tightly fitting lid, it is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The natural plant fiber and reed materials emphasise its ethnographic significance.
The basket is 9 inches high x 8” wide at the widest part and will make it a standout addition to any collection. The top opening of the basket is approximately 3.75” inches diameter and the diameter of the base is approximately 4.25”. These baskets were not only beautiful, but useful storage containers for rice.
