A rare and regal like pair of 19th-century French Samson porcelain wine coolers, boldly modeled after Chinese export armorial wares commissioned for European nobility. These cylindrical vessels are richly hand-painted with heraldic crests inspired by a celebrated Chinese export design made for Louis Philippe, the Citizen King of France.
Each cooler features an elaborate armorial medallion encircled by fleurs-de-lis, coronets, and laurel garlands, with scrolling floral sprays and auspicious motifs rendered in vibrant famille rose tones of iron red, cobalt, and gilt. Sculptural figural mask handles add an element of whimsy and sculptural sophistication. The interiors are glazed in a rim of deep red—striking whether displayed or used.
Produced by Samson, Edmé et Cie of Paris, a renowned 19th-century atelier known for its refined and scholarly reproductions of important European and Chinese porcelains.
