This expressive kilim was handwoven in Anatolia around 1950 – yet it seems to come from another world. Its powerful imagery, dominated by centered diamonds on a deep dark ground, is reminiscent of indigenous patterns from the Americas – Navajo, Aztec – while simultaneously demonstrating Anatolia's rich symbolic heritage.
At its center is the Nazarlık motif: a stylized diamond as a protective eye – traditionally used to ward off the "evil eye" and invite good forces. This ancient symbolism can be found in a wide variety of cultures – a testament to humanity's silent communication across patterns, forms, and meanings.
The star-shaped zigzag pattern around the center acts like a pulse of energy – dynamic, rhythmic, protective. The colors – curry, tomato red, indigo, olive, black, and rose – appear both earthy and vibrant.
This kilim is ideal as a floor rug—rugged, flat, and comfortable underfoot—or as a wall hanging, where it acts as a cultural force field. A piece that protects, enlivens, and connects spaces.
