A monumental and minimalist Swedish coffee table designed by Sven Larsson during the 1970s, executed in solid pine.

The table exemplifies Larsson’s characteristic Nordic interpretation of soft brutalism, where mass and materiality are balanced by restrained proportions and organic sensitivity. The thick tabletop features a pronounced and expressive pine grain, enhanced by carefully executed and visually articulate wood joints that serve both structural and decorative purposes.

The robust yet elegant base complements the substantial top, creating a harmonious and grounded composition. The overall design reflects the Scandinavian approach to brutalism of the period, favouring warmth, tactility, and clarity over severity.

Due to its minimalist expression and material honesty, this table has previously been attributed to other Swedish designers such as Roland Wilhelmsson and Axel Einar Hjorth, whose work shares related values of simplicity and structural emphasis. The present example is attributed to Sven Larsson.

A strong and sculptural piece, representing a mature and confident expression of Scandinavian soft brutalism from the 1970s. Refinished.
Wear consistent with age and use. The table has a striking pine wood grain pattern, with an fine glow. It has been refinished and given a new coat of oil.
