Gaston suisse (1896–1988) was a french decorator and a leading figure of the art deco movement. He designed several stage sets for the ballets russes at the paris opera and costumes for the comédie française before specializing in lacquer work. He distinguished himself through his refined craftsmanship in furniture and decorative panels. He took part in numerous international exhibitions, including the 1925 exposition of decorative arts in paris. His creations were often inspired by flora and fauna, which he depicted with precision and elegance, drawing from his travel sketches made in africa. His expertise in traditional japanese lacquer techniques made him one of the greatest lacquer artists of his time.
