This original and distinctive pair of Italian glazed ceramic table lamps showcases an intricate and time-consuming crafting process. Each lamp begins with a block of clay, skillfully hand-shaped by an artisan who molds the form using only manual techniques. A second master ceramicist then carefully applies a refined geometric pattern across the entire surface, entirely by hand. Once the modeling phase is complete, the pieces are left to air dry for an extended period, allowing all residual moisture to evaporate. After this drying process, the lamps are sponged with water to smooth out imperfections and increase porosity in preparation for firing. The first kiln firing, known as “biscuit firing,” lasts approximately 12 hours at 1000°C (1832°F), followed by a slow, natural cooling process as the heat dissipates. The next step involves the ancient technique of glazing, which is carried out by immersing the lamp body in a red glaze solution. This operation requires considerable expertise, as it is essential for the glaze to coat the surface evenly. A second kiln firing is then performed to permanently fix the color. Once the ceramic body is complete, the electrical system is installed. A brass tube runs through the center of each lamp, with the bulb socket fitted at the top and the power cord emerging from the base, complete with switch and plug. These lamps were handcrafted between 1970 and 1975 in an artisan kiln located in Nove, Veneto (Italy)—a region renowned for its ceramic tradition since the 18th century. Italian ceramics have long been recognized as a true art form, on par with painting or sculpture. This acclaim stems not only from the quality of the raw materials but also from the artistic contributions of ceramists, architects, and designers who have continuously reinterpreted the medium.
With their bold forms and vivid color, these lamps reflect the authentic spirit of Italian craftsmanship—timeless pieces that convey a warm and immediate visual comfort. The lamps are designed to accommodate a lampshade (not included); however, we have included two photographs with a shade to illustrate the finished look. Both lamps are in good condition. The wiring is in working order but features a European plug; voltage compatibility in other countries must always be checked by a qualified electrician before use. Dimensions: Width: 13 cm (5.1 in). Depth: 13 cm (5.1 in).
Height: 46 cm (18.1 in). All our shipments are carefully packed using professional materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety during transit.
