Beautiful Dutch design wall lamp, in excellent condition, from the 1970s!
The lamp is made of chromed metal and a transparent 'smoked' brown acrylic glass globe with a perforated aluminum funnel insert, which together creates a beautiful light effect.
The lamp is rotatable and adjustable (using the metal swival arm and sphere) and can easily be turned in different directions. This allows the lamp to provide direct light (ideal as a reading lamp), but also indirectly by shining the lamp towards the wall.
This type of mushroom lamps were made in the 60s/70s by the well-known Dutch lighting manufacturers Dijkstra, Raak, Gepo and Herda. These iconic lamps, in a typical Mid Century Atomic / Space Age design, are characterized by plexi acrylic globes. In terms of design it is very reminiscent of the arc lamp 'Sagittarius' from the Globe series, designed by Frank Ligtelijn for Raak Amsterdam.
The lamp presented here is a very rare model which is attributed to Dijkstra (based on design, not marked).
Dijkstra (est. 1922) is one of the oldest Dutch lamp factories making high-quality lighting fixtures with architectural appeal. Dijkstra lamps are one by one stunning, much sought after and valuable design pieces.
This iconic Dutch design will truly be an eye-catcher in your interior!
