An iconic mid century design. However, this is not a normal z lamp. This is a very early or even prototype model from the mid fifties. There are several details different to what a normal z lamp would have looked. The black lacquered base rod is fully lacquered - this is known to be a feature of the very early models. Later models would have a brass part in the middle of the rod. Also, the brass stretcher connected with the black rod has a rounded shape - later models had a more square looking brass stretcher. But the list goes on: the power cable comes out of a different place and the brass plate on the shade has no philips logo. It looks like this lamp was made when the design of this iconic z lamp was not completely finished yet. Which makes it something very special and highly rare. This model is officially called the decora or the l 588 fd, but is known as the z lamp because of it’s z shaped frame. Our z shows a really great patina on both the brass frame and the shade. In our opinion this only adds to the charm of this iconic design. Please note the rounded shade looks like the roof of the kalff designed evoluon building in eindhoven, the netherlands. this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
