A true example of mid-century italian design, this modular bookcase system was created by jan de vries for maisa di seveso. Its playful yet refined composition is composed of multiple modules in solid and veneered wood, each with distinct proportions and functions:
three bases (60 cm w × 40 cm d × 57 cm h)
two bases (81 cm w × 40 cm d × 57 cm h)
a tall base (76 cm w × 50 cm d × 80 cm h)
a low sideboard/chest of drawers (76 cm w × 40 cm d × 40 cm h)
a small wall unit (60 cm w × 40 cm d × 40 cm h)
an open shelf (57 cm h × 40 cm d × 30 cm l)
a large wall unit (57 cm h × 40 cm d × 60 cm h)
in total, the complete configuration measures 290 cm in width, 50 cm deep and 180 cm high. Each module fits together perfectly, creating a coherent yet dynamic installation that extends across the entire wall. The warm tones of the wood, probably teak or walnut, shine through a light satin finish that accentuates its natural grain, while the thin recessed handles and flush doors preserve the minimalist lines of the system. Open shelves alternate with closed cabinets and drawers, allowing for flexible storage and display options.
designed for maisa di seveso, a well-regarded milanese company known for its craftsmanship and innovation, this bookcase embodies the spirit of modular living of the time. It is in good vintage condition, with only a light surface patina consistent with age and light signs of use. Ideal for living rooms, libraries or offices looking for a design piece that balances functionality and the unmistakable mid-century modern style. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
