Gala Barbisan, birth name Galina Nicolaeva Solovieva, was born in Russia in 1904 and moved to Italy in 1935. Her artistic activity began in the 1960s and she mainly creates surrealist drawings in black and white using Indian ink. Her works are mainly characterized by fantastic motifs, birds and faces.
The drawing in question is made in black ink, with an emphasis on detail and texture. The shapes are not immediately recognizable, but recall the surrealist style that the artist followed in her pictorial period. The drawing seems to evoke an interior world, an imaginary ecosystem or an almost microscopic/macroscopic vision of the elements.
The drawing measures 46x31 cm and is in good condition.
At the bottom right of the sheet is the signature of the author "Gala Barbisan, 1967, Cortina".
