Robin Day is a 20th-century British designer whose design is rooted in a social vision: furniture for all.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Robin Day experimented with molded wood. His work was inspired by the Eames artists in the United States, but he would go on to develop his own vision of functional and durable furniture.
Among his iconic creations are these thermoformed wood chairs, which rest on a black lacquered tubular metal frame and are finished with a black leather cushion.
These chairs embody his minimalist aesthetic: clean lines, comfort, lightness, and solidity. These models were widely used in public spaces, offices, and homes, helping to popularize British modern design.
Despite his immense influence, Robin Day remained less well-known than some of his contemporaries for a long time. It was only after the 2000s that his work was fully recognized, notably with retrospectives and exhibitions dedicated to his work.
