This exceptional, larger-than-life bust is an impressive work in Carrara marble, crafted in Amsterdam around 1740. It depicts Omphale, the Lydian queen, identifiable by Hercules' lion skin which she wears – a symbol of her mythological dominion over him.
The craftsmanship of this Dutch bust is of the highest quality, with finely executed details in the marble, from Omphale's facial features to the texture of the lion skin. The condition of the piece is in excellent condition.
